Language shapes our understanding of ourselves and our
world, and is the primary means by which we relate to others.
English is the study and use of the English language in its
various textual forms encompassing spoken, written and
visual texts of varying complexity through which meaning is
shaped, conveyed, interpreted and reflected.
Developing proficiency in English enables students to take
their place as confident communicators, critical and
imaginative thinkers, lifelong learners and active participants
in society. It supports the development and
expression of a system of personal values based on moral,
ethical and spiritual matters and gives expression to their
hopes and ideals.
Students learn English through explicit teaching of language
and through their immersion in a diverse range of purposeful
and increasingly demanding language experiences. Students
learn about the power, value and art of the English language
for communication, knowledge and pleasure in past and
contemporary societies. They develop clear and precise skills
in speaking, listening, reading, writing, viewing and
representing, and knowledge and understanding of language
forms and features and structures of texts.

usage to understand how meaning is shaped by a variety of social
factors. Students will become confident users of information and
communication technologies, understanding their impact on society.
Due to the wide variety and individuality of tour subjects, we do
not have one specific itinerary for English.
However, from Lord of the Rings tours in New Zealand to visiting the
Theatre in Sydney the possibilities for a Literature tour are endless.
